About The Course
This isn't your average equine ethology course! Prepare to go deep! We will investigate how we show up in relationship with horses, challenge long held beliefs, and likely change some of our perspectives. Throughout the course, carefully curated science-backed content is artfully blended with opportunities for self-awareness and self-growth, leading to a powerful experience of learning, growth, and change. The course is delivered over six 90-min live zoom calls that are an engaging mix of lecture, discussion, personal reflection, and virtual hands-on practice sessions. These calls are accompanied by a private online learning platform where content is uploaded and discussions occur. As a part of this course, you will get access to the course content for 3 months AND you will be connected to the Embodied Awareness in Action™ Worldwide community!

How equine ethology impacts welfare
Understanding the individual and ethological characteristics of our equine partners can help us to shape better care and handling practices.
How to interpret equine communication
Equine communication is nuanced and starts very subtly. It is common for us to miss these subtleties and pay attention only when our equine partners are "screaming". This results in breaches of trust, lack of connection, and dangerous situations. This course will help you develop a greater awareness of equine communication so that you can respond promptly and effectively when your horse first communicates.
How we impact our equine partners
How we show up with our horses REALLY MATTERS. We will explore our own sense of embodied awareness, learn about nervous system and emotional regulation, discuss the role of emotional contagion and chemosignals within the horse-human relationship, and learn practices for slowing down and getting in our bodies.
Class Starts January 14th, 2026!
Our six live zoom calls will take place Wednesdays from 3:15-4:45pm pacific time (USA). THE FIRST CLASS IS MANDATORY to attend! Classes will be recorded and uploaded to the online learning platform so following the first class if you have to miss one you will be able to watch the recording. Meet Your Instructor
Leif Hallberg, M.A., LCP, LCPC is a horse trainer turned licensed mental health professional, internationally-recognized author, educator, and transformational coach who grew up on a remote ranch in Northern California where horses were her life. Over many years of living, being, and learning with horses, Leif developed an approach to human-equine interactions that is deeply relational. This approach is based not only on a profound respect for the intellect, self-efficacy, and ethological characteristics of these magnificent creatures, but also on an understanding of the significant impact humans have on the equines they interact with.
