Leif's Philosophy

Internationally–recognized author, educator, experiential psychotherapist, and transformational coach Leif Hallberg, M.A., LPC, LCPC believes health and enduring change occur when the body and mind are engaged in embodied, active experiencing, and when humans are able to slow down, get in tune, and reconnect to self, others, and the natural world.

Embodied Awareness

Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Experience this precious moment.

The concept of embodiment awareness is rooted in the lived experience of the body and mind fused together into one single being. It is in the body where our internal and external landscapes meet – where our senses, our emotions, and our cognitive processes come together to form a complete understanding of our experiences.

As we slow down and become aware of all that is around us and inside of us, we are better able to fully engage in the present moment. We are able to witness — to recognize what is ours and what is other — and to gently hold loving acceptance for both experiences.

We learn to recognize, understand, and regulate our emotions, tend to our nervous systems, and hold space for other people’s feelings while having strong internal and external boundaries.

As we slow down and fully experience our bodies, long-held emotions and memories can finally surface and be tended to and released.

And deep, long-lasting healing is the powerful outcome.

Active Experiencing

We humans learn, grow, and change most effectively when we integrate the wisdom of our bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits through safe, connective, and embodied experiences.

Taking action is a vital part of the change process! Experiencing is not necessarily a mental process, but rather a series of felt (or embodied), in-the-moment responses and reactions to whatever is occurring or co-occurring around us. Experiences can be positive, negative, and everything in between.

The theory of experiential learning suggests that human beings learn, grow, and change naturally when they are able to engage in experiences fully and holistically. It is how we were built to learn. All animals, including early humans, relied upon their ability to accurately perceive incoming stimuli to keep themselves safe. Having felt experiences of the world and learning from these experiences separated those who survived from those who didn’t.

As we have become more disconnected from our bodies, our senses, and from the natural world, we have also become more detached from our experiences, moving from one moment to the next, one task to the next, one interpersonal encounter to the next, or even one phase of life to the next without giving ourselves the chance to fully engage in the present moment — to feel, sense, experience, and learn.

It is through active, embodied experiencing that we come to understand ourselves, others, and the natural world more fully and are able to make change happen!

Interconnected Living

Since the time of Descartes and even before, the disconnection between the body, the mind, and the natural world has left Western civilization struggling with a fragmented and isolated experience of being human - both inside and out.

As we have become more detached from our bodies and from the rhythms of the natural world, and technology has set the pace for progress, function, and productivity, levels of stress, loneliness, disconnection, and dis-health have skyrocketed.

We know innately, and it is well documented in research, that human beings need nature to remain healthy. We also need a lifestyle that promotes movement, healthy eating, community, friendship, love, laughter, and a deep care for ourselves and others (the natural world included).

To experience the world like this is powerfully healing. For everyone involved.

What People Are Saying

Dr. Tanda Cook

“Leif Hallberg is one of the most wildly intuitive people I have ever met and has found her gift in the world… helping humans find their voice, self and purpose.”

Michelle Coulcher

"The way Leif draws people together and invites them to connect and share wisdom is a power in itself."

Paula Cummings

"As always you have a gift for almost clairvoyant understanding of my inner workings (probably what makes you a great counselor and teacher) and saying them clearly and with kindness. I appreciate what you saw in me, and what you encouraged in me. You did what you set out to do: "raising the bar, investing in personal and professional growth, and doing it together in community." It's so valuable to be around someone who doesn't settle for mediocrity! I am truly grateful for you and for all that I've learned in your course!”
